2017 BioFrontiers PhD Recruitment Fellowship at University of Colorado Colorado Springs, USA

INTRODUCTION

Up to two (2) PhD Research Recruitment Fellowships will be awarded for 2017-2018 for students in the Applied Sciences PhD program, doing research with Physics Faculty within the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS). New students are encouraged to apply.

The BioFrontiers Center at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, is an interdisciplinary research initiative involving Physics, Biology and other science and engineering disciplines.

COURSE AND ELIGIBILITY

Physics projects of interest include:
  • Single-particle tracking microscopy
  • Plasmonic resonances as a bio-imaging tool
  • Magnetic resonance imaging materials and techniques
  • Bio-magnetic nanoparticles

The successful applicant will have a GPA of 3.5, will have a strong Physics GRE score, will have an interest in pursuing bio-related physics research, and will have a demonstrated strong work ethic and drive. Note that these minimum requirements are higher than the requirements to enter our PhD program due to the fact that these positions are well funded.

CAREER PROSPECTS

These positions have guaranteed to fund for three years. The initial award is for one year, with continuation based on maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and making significant progress on research.

PAY PACKAGE

The successful student will earn $20,000 per year and will have tuition paid. They will work doing research for a minimum of 12 hours per week, and 40 hours per week during summer, with a faculty mentor(s). They will take PhD classes including BioPhysics. They will attend BioFrontiers meetings and seminars. Their research work will appear in archival journals.
